NEWS RELEASE
The Bacon County Board of Education will be implementing changes in our transportation system for the 2010-2011 school year. We have been reviewing the number of students carried by buses and the amount of time students spend on a bus. Some buses have a large number of students and extended route times, while other buses may have a small number of students and short route times. As this problem continues to grow, it will become necessary to create additional routes with limited resources as the state only participates in the maintenance and operation of a limited number of buses based on student population. In an effort to improve route efficiency, modifications have been made to existing bus routes. While we have tried to maintain current drivers for most students, there will be some changes. City bus routes have been modified. Rather than having door to door stops there will be designated bus stop areas. Routes outside of the City of Alma may also see changes in drivers to aid in the balancing of schedules. Parents of primary school students may talk with their child’s bus driver and transportation staff concerning the changes at the open house meeting on August 11th from 3:30 to 6:00, and again for Pre-K on August 12th from 12:00 to 6:00. Transportation personnel will also be available to discuss route changes at the Elementary School Open House on August 12th from 3:30 to 5:00 and during the Middle, and High School open house on August 11th from 4:00 to 6:00.
